The Private Member Experience

Private membership at Mayfair & City Carriages is not a loyalty programme. It is a standing arrangement between the company and a small number of clients — two hundred, by deliberate constraint — who require a standard of availability and personalisation that cannot be provided to the general public.

A private member has a named account manager who knows their schedule, their preferences, and their requirements. They have access to vehicles at one hour's notice, at any hour of any day, including at peak periods — Wimbledon week, Christmas, New Year's Eve — when non-members may face delays.

The limit of two hundred members is maintained strictly. When a member leaves the register, their place is offered to the waiting list in order. We do not expand the membership to accommodate demand — the limit exists precisely because unconstrained demand is the enemy of the standard we maintain.

Why We Limit Membership to 200

The two-hundred member limit is not a marketing conceit. It is a practical constraint determined by the size of our fleet and the number of chauffeurs we can guarantee to our members at peak periods. The Senior Wimbledon fortnight, Royal Ascot week, and the Christmas–New Year period create simultaneous demand from the entire membership — and we must be able to serve every member who requires a vehicle during those periods without qualification.

If we accepted three hundred members, we could not maintain the availability guarantee. If we accepted one hundred and fifty, we would be leaving viable members without the service they require. Two hundred is the number at which the guarantee holds, the relationships are manageable, and the standard is maintained.

Membership Questions

Is there a waiting list?+

Yes — when membership is at capacity, we operate a waiting list in strict chronological order. Waiting times vary but are typically three to six months. Please make an enquiry to join the waiting list.

What is the annual membership fee?+

Membership fees are discussed privately during the application process. They vary by tier and are structured to reflect the level of availability and personal service guaranteed. Please make an enquiry for current rates.

Can a corporate entity hold membership?+

Yes — corporate memberships are available and are structured around the requirements of the organisation rather than an individual. Corporate membership typically covers a defined number of senior executives.

What happens if I need a vehicle at very short notice?+

Private members have priority over non-member bookings. With one hour's notice, we will always have a vehicle available for a Private Member; Principal Members have a 30-minute priority guarantee at standard hours.
